Layered Oats Parfait breakfast
As the famous proverb says an apple a day keeps the disease at bay. I will say skipping breakfast even a day, pushes the metabolism to put on more weight. Makes sense?
We must have read in the school in science how the body functions and how body reacts to food. There is something called reserve which means our body is quite smart to store some food for the emergency period. When eating habits are regular so body gets what it needs to keep the reserve saved. When we skip a meal and due to huge gap in between the meals then body starts pulling the food from the reserve which is not too healthy & that leads to starvation.
Understand that there are many people who say that they don’t like to eat breakfast and still can function properly. I would say that’s the habit body has got used to. We forget that we are getting older and these unhealthy habits can sabotage our health in long run and thus leads to put on more weight. Hence there are mixed opinion about breakfast, many are breakfast people and many can survive straight with lunch.
Coming back to breakfast, I can’t start my day without a breakfast and love to create NEW breakfast recipes. It’s a perfect big meal of the day which balances the mood and metabolism to kick start a day.
The body hasn’t got the food while we are fast asleep because it is busy in digesting the previous meal. So now think about it if not eaten including the 8-9 hrs of sleep and if we add few more hours without a breakfast. Hence, we are letting the body to react in a way that we would eat faster & over eat and brain will not register that you had a good meal. Therefore, every meal is related and helps in keeping the metabolism healthy and helps in avoiding hunger pangs.
Oats is super easy to make for yourself or for the family.
No such great efforts if one starts the day very early. Layered Oats parfait is incredibly easy and portable to carry at work in case in hurry. Otherwise as well, just to enjoy the morning breakfast with the family during the weekend. Just require some preparation a night before – for example soak the chia seeds in the milk, I had made instant cashew milk.
How to make instant Cashew Milk for parfait – ( small quantity) feeds 2 people –
- Take handful of cashew nuts, one can soak it for 15 – 20 minutes (if desired- optional) otherwise not required because chia seeds will be soaked in it the entire night so in a way it is helping the cashew nuts to soak itself in milk but in a powder and blended way.
- Add 250 Ml milk in a blender, add cashew nuts in it and pulse it until it blends properly and becomes creamy. Process takes 5-6 minutes.Layered Oats ParfaitPrep Time5 minsCook Time10 minsTotal Time15 mins
It takes only 10 minutes to make it and soak chai seeds overnightServings: 2Ingredients
- 65 gm Cashew nuts to make cashew nut milk
- 250 ml Milk Milk of your choice , full fat or skimmed milk
- 2 1/2 tablespoons Chia Seeds
- dollop Honey
- 65 gm Dates
- 65 gm Dark raisins
- 1/2 tablespoon Cardamom powder
- 1/2 cup Oats
- 1/2 cup Water
- 8-9 sliced Strawberries - fresh or frozen
- 1 sliced Plum
- some Berries
Make cashew milk as mentioned above before the recipe. After that add chia seeds , honey and mix it . Keep it in the refrigerator to set over night.
Next day make oats - Add water in a pan , boil it, add oats in it, keep stirring it and when the consistency is thick , take it out in a desired bowl.
Chop dates and raisins together and mix cardamom powder in it. Add on top of oats.
Warm the chia seeds pudding /mixture for few seconds in microwave. After that add it on the dates mixture.
Top it up with fresh or frozen strawberries, plum and some berries. Serve instantly. If you like add a pinch of cardamom powder on the strawberries too. Enjoy!
Serve it instantly, it tastes better as the oats + chai seeds is warm.
Sprinkle a pinch of cardamom powder after putting the strawberries on the top.
