Missed Splashofflavours ….Hello Vegetarian Foodie’s…

First of all let Splashofflavours wish you all a very happy prosperous new year 2016. Hope that the journey and the interaction and support will continue. This is indeed a connection of creativity, appreciation and inspiration.Cheers!!

You must have noticed a long silence from splashofflavours. It’s like when everything is going fine and suddenly there is a cloud burst, in other words have had quite a few occurrences where my computer was slow, wasn’t working and then there was a storm of laptop crashing down. It’s fun when you have curious toddlers in the house. Love this new generation where they start very early, no wonder they are only 18 months old. One of my baby decided out of the blue to open the screen of my laptop, in a matter of seconds the screen of my laptop was shattered. Ofcourse it was still fun for him, not really realizing what exactly had happened.

When the life is busy sometimes one has to prioritize the life, job, kids, family and the house. Indeed missed splashofflavours on many occasions, missed hearing from you all.

Here I start the journey of creativity with a makeover of splashofflavours. Making the best possible way of approaching new year 2016.  I decided to make eggless dark chocolate mousse; I love chocolate, ooh yeah dark chocolate. It’s simply so easy to indulge in chocolate – Love the way the creativity and the love for baking end up showcasing on a platform which is created with love, tender, care , creativity and hard work.

Promised my skylander boy that I would make Chocolate mousse for him thus we ended up being in the kitchen together and let my boy  make some chocolate decoration. Cooking and baking with kids generally doesn’t call for perfection, sometimes imperfection takes to a different level in a good way. It was the time spent with him that mattered the most, not perfection.Later my adorable skylander boy helped me to set the photoshoot layout and moved the chocolate bowls here and there. The heat of the hand changed the shape of the bowl.He was tremendously excited and wanted to help in putting the chocolate decoration. Whilst taking the pictures it was just so difficult for him to resist .There comes a hand to taste it 😉_004This was more fun; serving bowl was made of chocolate, dessert was chocolate and on top of it the decoration was made of chocolate Yes.. yes..that’s right. .You have read it right.. The New Year’s Eve was a treat of chocolate. It had to be special. Recipe of mousse is inspired by Nigella and I have added honey melon to it. I have made it in my style. It’s a clever recipe for a vegetarian, no egg and quick mousse instead of waiting for more hours.

Chocolate bowl – The chocolate bowl is pretty easy to make and sounds also fun but one has to be careful with the temperature of the chocolate and not bursting the balloon before it dries out. This could definitely make one impatient if trying it for the first time, my suggestion would be to wait until the chocolate starts cooling down. Remaining chocolate, make the chocolate decoration. Pipe it and use it and keep the decoration in the fridge until the dessert is ready to serve. Takes 1 hour with the cooling down process. Use that waiting time in preparing mousse.
Course: Dessert
Servings: 4 -6
  • Dark or light Chocolate chips250 gm
  • Vegetable spray
  • Balloons – numbers of your choice
  • For eggless Chocolate mousse –
  • Ingredients:-
  • 150 gm of small marshmallows
  • 50 gm of unsalted butter – room temperature
  • 200 gm Dark chocolate
  • 4 tablespoons of lukewarm water
  • 280 gm whip cream
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla essence
  • 2 tablespoon crushed honey melon optional
  1. • Blow the balloons and knot them and keep them aside.
  2. • Put a parchment paper on a baking tray.
  3. • Melt the chocolate on a bowl of hot water – put a bowl of water on the stove, put another bigger bowl on top of the hot bowl so it covers the bowl under it and add chocolate in a bowl.
  4. • Remove the bowl from the stove and wait for few seconds for the chocolate to cool down just to ensure that the balloon doesn’t burst when it touches the chocolate.
  5. • Feel the temperature of the chocolate.
  6. • Put a drop of chocolate on the parchment paper and spread it in small circle.
  7. • Use vegetable spray at the bottom of the balloon ( just very small quantity).
  8. • Now dip the balloon into the chocolate, dip it little more dipper, put the hand on the top of the balloon and move it gently how a boat moves in still water.
  9. • Now put the balloon on top of the chocolate drop which was made on the parchment paper.
  10. • Put all the balloons in a cold place until the chocolate cools down. Let’s say ½ hr. and if required then more but keep checking it.
  11. • When dries up, burst with a scissors on top of the balloon.
  12. • If the balloon sticks at the bottom, take it down, heat of the hand can melt the chocolate so be careful. Hold it on the tea towel if required and take the remaining balloon out.
  13. • So the chocolate bowl is ready 
