Chocolate Oats Soaked Overnight

Preparing oats overnight has always been very fascinating way to make oats for me. Methodology behind soaking the ingredients overnight changes the outlook and the taste of the food. For example, soaking the almonds helps in taking the heat from the almonds , easy to peel , easy to make almond milk , easy to use in the recipe [ link of almond milk ] .

There are so many ways to use the soaked ingredient overnight. Since my childhood the various names of soaking methodology would always take my attention such as brewing , steeping , soaking and so on. I would recall an incidence here from my childhood , when I saw my mom soaking 1 cup of dry beans in the water and the size of the beans and the quantity doubling up the next day. I was so impressed with the method of cooking. Science behind the cooking is very impressive.

Soaking the oats overnight makes the oats very mushy , soft and tasty. During the weekend, typically my morning starts with making the oats porridge for the kids and serve it with some apple sauce or any marmalade they like.

I consider soaked oats overnight as a healthy treat for me. Process behind soaking the oats with other ingredients makes it more exciting and I look forward for the outcome and taste next day. Have also been creative again with the oats and made my own recipe. Used seedless dates as the base of the milk and dates are also known as a fruit. I love to create recipes with different taste and type of milk. Was looking for no sugar added in the recipe and dates are perfect for natural sugar. Dates are rich in vitamins, minerals , fibre and a good source of energy.

My adorable boys ( skylander boy , muffin and cupcake ) love to munch on dates and I encourage that too. Reason are listed here –

  • Strengthen bones
  • Boost energy
  • Helps with hunger pangs
  • Good snack to munch on.

They love to give me the reminder when they have taken the last date from the container and it brings a smile on my face.

Fruits and oats

Back to soaking – I haven’t soaked the dates a night before for this recipe, reason being is was looking for some texture in the milk and recipe. Plus the dates will be soaked automatically in milk overnight after churning them in the milk. This process will give thickness and texture to the overnight soaked oats. Chocolate flavour is another ingredient that excites me in my recipe & wanted to give a twist and creativity to my oats. Cooking time is only 10 minutes along with cutting the fruits , otherwise overnight is the soaking time.

Ingredients
  • 450 ml Milk
  • 50 gm Dates Seedless
  • 1 1/2 Cups Oats - organic
  • 1 tablespoon Coco powder
  • 2 tablespoons Maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Chia seeds
  • Some orange zest
  • 1 small orange - peeled Optional
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla essence
  • Chocolate shave
  • Fruits of your choice
  • 1/2 tablespoon Pumpkin seeds
Instructions
  1. Start with churning half quantity of milk with dates, it takes 2 minutes to blend well, now add remaining milk, give it a quick churn for few seconds. Pour in a bowl.

  2. Now add chia seeds + oats + coco powder + maple syrup + slices of peeled orange + zest of orange , mix them well , close the lid of the container , let it rest overnight 

  3. Next day serve it with your favourite fruit , add vanilla essence on the top + pumpkin seeds + add the shaving of some chocolate .

Photography – Capturing the moment in my camera had led me to a desperate situation. Exactly happened with these pictures. Had forgotten to put my battery to charge of my DSLR camera a night before. Not realising that it will bring me into a desperate dicy situation. I was almost at the verge of not taking the pictures due to no battery. Took a chance , till the time prepared for the photoshoot set up ( 15 minutes ) ,had to let the battery charge and didn’t give up. When I saw the results of the shoot, was so relived and happy that I didn’t give up.

Moral of the story – Don’t give up easily , try until you succeed , make efforts , be determined and remember the importance of small tasks.
