Healthy Energy Snack

Learnt from my own personal experience that healthy snacking is better than indulging in junk food. Many years ago, during our movie nights, used to munch on chips and got up next morning with the guilt of indulging in junk food. Have always been focused on healthy food habits, however once in a while I had found myself eating chips especially during movie nights at home. Since I was aware what I was eating, later changed that habit into munching on carrots, bell peppers and green tea. Decided to share one of my own recipe on the blog which I usually make for my kids at home. These baked apples healthy energy snack bar are loaded with healthy goodness.

Baked Apples Healthy Energy Snack Bar

When to make?

No sugar or flour was used to prepare these snack bars, it’s has lot of different nuts.

Besides eating 3 meals in a day, we do snack a little bit, for example – fruits, vegetables, nuts. These healthy snack bar are just perfect to put it in kid’s lunch box, offer them after they come back from school, take to work, eat it at work when sugar craving hits, eat it as pre-work out snack or post work out snack or just make it for a kid’s birthday party or summer party. My kid’s loves to snack on it and have also promoted healthy eating habits at home. It’s soft inside, has a good texture and crunchy from outside.

Snack Bar with Baked Apples

Supermarkets are flooded with muesli snack bar or energy bars, I prefer to make my own as I can control what I am adding in my snack bar and add more healthy goodness in it. Frankly speaking, have never bought those bars from any store, was never convinced. These homemade snack bar can last up to 2 days.

Ingredients
  • 3 Chopped Apples
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Cinnamon powder
  • 1 Vanilla pod or 1 tablespoon Vanilla essence
  • 2 Cups oatmeal
  • 1 Cup cranberries
  • 1 Cup almonds
  • 1 Cup walnuts
  • 1 Tablespoon chia Seeds
  • 1 Cup honey
  • Pinch of Salt
Instructions
  1. Pre heat the oven at 225 C

  2. In a food processor, blitz apples + cinnamon + vanilla pod/ vanilla essence for few seconds until apples turn into small chunks. Take it out in a bowl.

  3. Now again in food processor, add oatmeal, blitz it for few seconds. We are looking at the consistency as some powder and some chunks of oatmeal. After this add in a same bowl of apples.

  4. Now again in food processor, add walnuts + almonds , blitz for few seconds , so that we get chunks of both together. Add it in the same bowl of apples and oatmeal.

  5. Add cranberries , chia seeds  and honey. Mix well.

Take a baking tray, lay the baking sheet on it , now add the mixture in it, level it well , press it with spatula or back of any clean mason jar.

  6. Bake it for 25- 35 minutes, check after 25 minutes and if not done, let it bake for another 10 minutes. Let it cool down and slice it in any shape you like. I had sliced diagonally and in the middle.

Recipe Notes

If you like you can add 1/2 cup of honey to it. According to me sweetness was perfect but at times people prefer more sweetness.

Otherwise top it up with some melted dark chocolate
